Math 323 : Differential Equations

Instructor: Stéphane Lafortune

Course Text:  Nagle, Saff and Snider, Fundamentals of Differential Equations, Sixth Edition, Addison-Wesley, 2004.

Lecture:   MATH-323-001, MWF, 11:00-11:50AM, MAYBANK HALL (MYBK) 223.

Course Description: First and second order ordinary differential equations, with emphasis on the linear case. Methods of integrating factors, undetermined coefficients, separation of variables, variation of parameters, power series, Laplace transforms.

Prerequisite: Math 221 and either 203 or permission of the Instructor.

Grading Policy:  Your grade will be based on 20% from your homework, 50% from the two midterms and 30% from the final exam.

Important Dates: There will be three midterms, on  Sept. 23 and Oct. 28. The Final Exam will be on December 10th, 12:00-03:00 P.M. The last day to withdraw from the class with a grade of W is Oct. 4.

Important: There will be no make-ups for mid-term exams. If a student misses a mid-term exam for a valid reason, the grade for this exam will be replaced by the grade of the Final exam. There will be a make-up for the Final exam only in the case of a very good reason.

Homework assignments: Homework will be collected each Wednesday. Late homework will not be accepted and the two worst homework grades will be dropped.
